10 Worst Predictions about Discoveries and Inventions

Nurture your fledglings and watch them flourish

Success Strategies must  include Vision and Focus.

People without vision risk being baffled by the turn of events in their life, in the world. The poorest person in the world is not the one without a cent to his name; it is the one without vision. Have a look at these comments made by some "responsible" people when confronted with new ideas and inventions.

  1. "Computers in the future will weigh no more than 1.5 tons." (Popular Mechanics, forecasting advance of science, 1949.)
  2. "I think there's a world market for maybe five computers." (Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943.)
  3. "I have travelled the length and breadth of this country and talked with the best people, and I can assure you that data processing is a fad that won't last out the year." (Editor in charge of business books for Prentice Hall, 1957.)
  4. "But what is it good for?" (Engineer at the Advanced Computing Systems Division of IBM, commenting on the micro chip, 1968)
  5. "There is no reason why anyone would want to have a computer in their home." (Ken Olson, president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corp, 1977.)
  6. "This 'telephone' has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us." (Western Union memo, 1876.)
  7. "The wireless music box has no imaginable commercial value. Who would pay for a message sent to nobody in particular?" (David Sarnoff's associates in response to his seeking investment in the radio in the 1920's.)
  8. "Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?" (HM Warner, Warner Bros, 1927.)
  9. "Heavier than air flying machines are impossible." (Lord Kelvin, president, Royal Society, 1895.)
  10. "The abdomen, the chest, and the brain will forever be shut from the intrusion of the wise and humane surgeon." (Sir John Eric Ericksen, British surgeon, appointed Surgeon Extraordinary to Queen Victoria, 1873.)

So, never allow your energy or enthusiasm to be dampened by the petty discouragements that inevitably come our way. Creative thinkers and achievers have always been criticized. Motivation+ Commitment +Attitude =Success!
